Transhumanism – An Attempt to Reverse the Curse?

Posted by on August 1, 2014

Chuck Missler has stated that God’s primary jealousy is towards His role as Creator.  Certainly, we can see for at least the past 150 years, that role has been under tremendous assault as proponents of the evolutionary hypothesis try to prove “it just ain’t so.”   It would seem that rather than submit to the Creator who formed them, some scientists such as Francis Crick  and Richard Dawkins would rather believe that Aliens seeded the earth with what became humanity.  Score one for intelligent design.  As of insulting the Creator weren’t enough, now comes news that  through the scientific machinations of the Transhumanist and post-humanist schema,  modern scientists seek to usurp the role of God entirely and become the creators themselves.   Leading transhumanist thinker Ray Kurzweil, when asked “Do you believe there is a God?”  responded “not yet.” (paraphrased here:  Is this not the original lie in a new package?  Ye shall be as gods? Oh, but wait…there’s more… as mentioned in my last post, a key area of study for Mr. Kurzweil and others is this project of “Solving Death.”  Again, was this not the lie that Satan proposed way back in the book of Genesis?  Let’s take a look:

Genesis 3serpent

1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:

But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

So here we are, 6,000 years later, and Satan is still stringing out the same bait.  1) You shall be as gods.  2) You shall not surely die.    Isn’t that interesting?   And man is still taking the bait.

Romans 1

22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:

25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

Is that not what we are seeing today?  Rather than honor God as God, they declare (with zero proof) that He does not exist and that everything is pure random chance processes.  Then, they go about trying to design the next pure random chance process which will catapult them into an era where they, as creators, bring immortality to humankind.  Glibly, these arrogant would-be-gods do not see the inherent contradiction in their own thought processes (i.e., we evolved by pure chance but it will require a concentrated effort for us to design the next step in our evolution).  They also do not see their own rebellion.  Proclaiming themselves as the creators of a whole new species  of humanity, they actually take time to posit that with their worldview, one will no longer need something such as religion, which hinders what they deem as “progress.”   As John Messerly stated in a recent article for

But must we relinquish religious beliefs now, before science gives us everything we want? Might we allow the comfort of religious beliefs to those who need them, to  those who must tell their children something when someone dies? The most important reason to abandon religious belief is religion’s opposition to most forms of progress. From the elimination of slavery, the use of birth control, and women’s and civil rights, to stem cell research, genetic engineering, and science in general, organized religion often opposes progress. The comfort provided by archaic superstitions often impedes advancement and should be set aside.

I could spend time here deconstructing that statement and eliminating major parts of it (for instance, it was religionists that brought about the abolition of Slavery, Jesus elevated women far above where society had placed them, and some of the greatest scientists the world has ever seen have been devout Christians), but lets hone in on the general tenor or tone of what he is saying.  Religion is a lie and what we, the new creators, are positing will give you everything you could ever want or need.  Oh, can’t you hear the serpents hiss?

Follow this path, which is not a path that recognizes God for who He is, and you will live for ever.  You shall not surely die.  You shall be as gods.  The more things change, the more they stay the same.

I do not believe that transhumanism is worthy to be considered the temptation which caused all mankind to be doomed at birth. In the verses you presented, it does seem that we are confronted with what our primary parents faced. However, the following verses from Genesis 3 refute your thinking:

    22. And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:

    23. Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.

    24. So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.

From these verses, we see that God drove them out of the garden for one reason: everlasting life. God shows that we have a limited free will. Everlasting life, on the other hand, was sequestered from us. Transhumanism will never reverse the curse, for God is opposed to it.

What transhumanism will do is produce a multitude of beneficial outcomes for our society. As of everlasting life, no development of this task will be accomplished.

    Thanks for contacting me.

I believe Genesis 3’s temptation was to be like God. Lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, pride of life. Immortality was his from the beginning. Else, why would God tell him that by his disobedience his punishment would be death? There was no death prior to the fall. Death came by sin. So, one can intimate that prior to sin, man would have lived forever.

So, what did God mean about taking of the fruit of the tree?
Well, now as a fallen creature with an evil nature, God simply could have meant if he takes of the tree he will live forever and carry on sin and all its repercussions forever. The tree of life is something that lives in heaven as well. It apparently does have within it the power of immortality.

In Revelation 22, John is describing Heaven and mentions it again:

In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.
And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:

In terms of Transhumanism – I partially agree and partially disagree. Ultimately, they will not achieve immortality. Only God has the power of life and death and it is appointed until men once to die and the judgment. Only the rapture gets around this. However, I think they will be somewhat successful in making it harder for man to die. Stay tuned to the blog for development of this thought.

In terms of benefits to man, yes, there are some beneficial outcomes. But there is a sinister side that I will be getting into more in the weeks to come as well . They are actually talking about doing away with religion because it will no longer be needed. They are looking to themselves as gods and in that way, they are trying to twart the curse. Trying versus accomplishing are two different things. Right now, I’m developing what they are trying to do.

    Thanks for reading!

I have waited for you to give some negative affects which transhumanism would create if we achieved it, but I have not received one which can logically be argued. The main argument which you have given is that man is trying to reverse the curse. This does seem like a terrible crime, but we do it every day. When man fell, we were given a curse. We now had to work, thorns and weeds were given, women go though birth pains, and ultimately, man will die one day. However, We avoid these curses by creating labor saving machines, spraying weed killer, easing the pain for birth, and using medicine and other methods to stay alive. Using tanshumanism to prolong death and to create a smarter humanity would be no different than what we do now. I would appreciate it if you shared other reasons why transhumanism will negatively affect us.
